Selfless Greed

I write because I like to

cry because sometimes I just want to

drink too much coffee ’cause it tastes good

cook dinner ’cause my stomach says I could

I walk instead of drive because I can

smoke weed when I don’t give a damn.

My purpose isn’t a real one

It’s not a do-this-do-that-must-have-should-not-where-the-fuck-is-the-fun one

It’s an awkward-situation-embracing,

smile-real-big-when-my-heart-is-racing,

don’t-back-down-no-matter-what-you’re-facing

type one.

You say it’s selfish

I say you’re jealous

because you

write in cursive when they tell you,

raise your hand when they say to,

sit in a corner when they yell,

start learning as soon as they ring the bell.

They ask questions about your future, you answer

with a plan and an apology if you’re “wrong”

while I say I’m going to live life as I could

not as I should

because I want to and I can do

Can-do

will-do

want-to

not because

     I have to

     or should do

            or got to
