The Savagery of Roses

When I think I come close

then they attack

with thorns that shield their sight

in the green leaves.

Fingers pierced,

blood running,

red liquid into

the soft red of the blossoms.

He gives me roses –

pain or pleasure?

He will not tell,

but smiles his duplicity.
