Dragons Come to Visit

The ice around me melts into orange flame.
They are here!
They dare not come farther than the garden gate.
Our meetings are secret to the world around me.
I touch their alien wings
while they marvel at the tears I can shed
in both greeting and farewell.

“They’ve come back,” I whisper to no one in particular.
The world is ablaze with dragons
even in the darkness.
I could not live without their visitation.
They tell me they could not live without my imagination
calling them forth.
Is this love?
